An interesting article in the San Diego Union Tribune today discussing the rise in DUI arrest this New Years, as opposed to last year. 20 people were arrested by the California Highway Patrol, only 14 were arrested last year. These statistics can be misleading though, since the article makes clear that the arrest statistics only apply to the CHP, not necessarily other law enforcement agencies. One would assume that the Police and Sheriff made their share as well.
It is a surprise that the arrests increased this year, at least in regards to the CHP. The popularity of uber, lyft and other ridesharing apps has helped decrease the number of DUI arrests overall in the last year.
